LEARN AS YOU PLAY AND PLAN AS YOU ROAM

News Release by:
Central Provident Fund Board
01 July 2005 --

The CPF Board today launched two new initiatives at the opening of its roadshow. The first, my cpf Voyage of Life, is an online board game to educate Singaporeans on the importance of planning early for their retirement. The second, mPAL—My Statement, enables members to check and plan their CPF information through mobile technology.

The CPF Board has introduced an online retirement planning board game, my cpf Voyage of Life, to educate Singaporeans on the importance of planning early for a secure retirement and to take the first step towards this direction.

This was launched by its newly appointed Chairman, Mr Koh Yong Guan, at the opening ceremony of the my cpf and me 2005 roadshow, held at Toa Payoh HDB Hub starting today to July 3. The objective of the roadshow is to educate CPF members on the need to plan early for their retirement.

This year, the Board will also be organising two seminars to educate participants on the concepts of retirement planning. The first seminar will be conducted tomorrow (Sat, 2 July) and the second, in Chinese, will be held on 16 July.

Through the newly launched my cpf Voyage of Life online game, the Board hopes to educate members on important retirement planning concepts through an informal, fun and interactive manner.

The my cpf Voyage of Life game, available at www.cpf.gov.sg, is designed to simulate a person’s life journey through a board game. Players will travel through significant life events such as working, making investments, buying insurance, and buying a home. By playing the game, they will be able to feel the implications of their decisions that will directly affect their financial security. It will also enable members to understand and learn more about the CPF schemes as the game progresses.

CPF mPAL - My Statement

With Singaporeans becoming more IT savvy, the Board is exploring new ways to enable members to access personal information more easily and quickly to help them make informed decisions on important events in their lives.

Starting this month, the Board will be conducting a pilot trial for CPF mPAL – My Statement. With this innovative service, CPF members will be able to access information on their CPF accounts using their mobile phones. This service is part of the CPF Board’s continual drive towards excellent customer service through innovative use of technology.

Those interested to participate in the 2-month trial can register at the registration booth at the my cpf and me roadshow. But they must own a GPRS, Java-enabled mobile phone and GPRS charges will apply. This service is especially useful for those who are on the go, or do not have access to the computer.

The CPF mPAL – My Statement service is an extension of the my cpf Online Services currently available at the CPF website and is part of the Board’s continual drive towards excellent customer service through innovative use of technology.
