SINGPASS: REQUEST FOR IT ONLINE NOW!

News Release by:
Central Provident Fund Board, Ministry of Finance &
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore
27 AUGUST 2003 --

Government e-service users can now request or reset their SingPass online by visiting the eCitizen website at www.eCitizen.gov.sg, or the Central Provident Fund Board (CPFB) website at www.cpf.gov.sg. A new password will be mailed directly to the applicant within 1 week of the request date. This service is available to Singaporeans, employment and dependant pass holders.

Launched on 1st March 2003, “SingPass”, or “Singapore Personal Access”, is the common password for users to access government e-services at www.eCitizen.gov.sg, and various government websites. It was developed by the CPF Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. Currently, 16 government agencies authenticate users with SingPass for access to 136 e-services requiring secure user identification. Some 457,000 transactions were authenticated by SingPass in July 2003, up from 275,000 in March 03. By end 2004, SingPass will become the common online password authentication method for all government e-services that require simple authentication. Some examples of government agencies and e-services using SingPass are at Annex A.

Besides the online service, Singaporeans and residents can also apply for or reset their SingPass on-the-spot at all Community Development Council (CDCs) offices, selected Community Centres (CCs) and any CPF branch. Requests for a new SingPass or reset of SingPass can also be made at all Singapore Post outlets and CCs which do not offer on-the-spot application or reset. A mailer containing the SingPass will be sent to the applicant at the official address maintained with the government.

“We are pleased that so many e-service users are now using SingPass,” said Mr Loh Khum Yean, Deputy Secretary (Administration), Ministry of Finance, “Our goal is to make government e-services intuitive and easy to use. The ease with which users can apply for their SingPass online makes it even simpler and more convenient for the public to transact electronically with the government.”
