  1) How long does it take to convert to e-submission?

Some of the e-submission modes require you to perform a test run before being allowed to perform Live e-submission, so the time taken to convert would depend on how long you take to complete the test run. Apart from the test run, banks may require up to 4 weeks to approve new GIRO applications.

If there are no delays in either of the above factors, you should be able to convert to e-submission and payment within about one month.

  2) Is it safe to submit employee details through the internet?

Yes. The information you submit is encrypted using the 128-bit SSL, which is supported by most web browsers. You do not need to buy or download any additional software. The SSL-128 bit security option is a common standard used by major online merchants, financial institutions, and brokerages worldwide to transmit confidential documents via the Internet.

For added security, only designated staff (assigned by you) are able to login to perform the e-submission. After each successful e-submission, an acknowledgement e-mail will be sent to your designated email account (assigned by you), and you can also login to enquire on the submission status and view the Record of Payment online.

  3) Is there a processing fee if I don’t use e-submission?

Currently, there is a processing fee in place for the submission hardcopy CPF contribution details by companies with 11 or more employees. The processing fee is $7 per employee per month, and we may be extending it to employers with 1-10 employees in the future.

  4) I’m not affected by the processing fee for the time being. Can I convert later?
Although you may have 10 or fewer employees at the moment, we would still encourage you to convert early. Apart from the convenience and efficiency of e-submission, converting early will also ensure that you are not caught out by unexpected increases in your permanent or temporary staff strength in future.

  5) What is a SingPass and how do I get one?

SingPass, which stands for "Singapore Personal Access", is your common password to transact with the Government online. Please visit www.singpass.gov.sg for more information on SingPass.

  6) Can I get a corporate SingPass for my company?
For security purposes, we do not issue SingPass for corporate use. Staff transacting online on behalf of the company will have to use his/her own SingPass.

To protect your confidentiality, please do not reveal your SingPass to anyone.

  7) Is there an electronic submission mode I can use if I don’t have a SingPass?

Yes, you can sign up for Provident And Tax (PAT). This service does not require a CPF Account Number or SingPass. You will log on to this service using the ID and password issued by CrimsonLogic. For more information, please visit CrimsonLogic’s PAT website.

Alternatively, you may opt for a GIRO standing instruction where a fixed contribution amount will be deducted each month. This option is suitable only if your employee count is low and wages are the same every month. For more information, please contact our Call Centre at 1800 227 1188.

  8) What is the difference between the CPF Phone PIN and SingPass?

The SingPass is an alphanumeric password of 8 to 24 characters which can be used for different types of Government online services. The CPF Phone Pin is an eight digit (numeric only) PIN used for mPAL - Employer Submission services. It cannot be used for other Government services.

  9) Can I pay by cheque after converting to e-submission?

No, cheques will not be accepted, as e-submissions must be accompanied by an e-payment such as GIRO.

If you are concerned that switching to GIRO will mean a loss of control over the deduction of your funds, please be assured that the bank will not do a GIRO deduction if you have not e-submitted your contribution details to the CPF Board. With GIRO, you also have the option to select deduction on the last day of the grace period or next day deduction.

Please note that if you are currently paying your CPF contributions through GIRO, you need not re-apply.

  10) Are there other payment modes available besides GIRO?
Yes, in addition to GIRO, we also accept payment made through the Internet Banking services available at participating banks. Please contact them for more information.
