Recommended Payment Protocol

When there are multiple payers for a hospital bill, the recommended payment protocol of the bill is as follows

  • Employer/Private Insurer
  • MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan
  • Medisave savings
  • Member’s cash

If your employer/insurer is paying for the bill, you need to produce a Letter of Guarantee from your employer/insurer.

If you are also insured under other medical insurance provided by private insurers, you can still claim from MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan. The claimable amount will still be computed based on the assured amount. However, the total claim from the private medical insurance and MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan cannot exceed the total bill incurred.

Depending on the administrative procedure of the hospital, there may be a need to place a deposit in cash, at the time of admission. The deposit will not be covered by your employer/insurer and/or Medisave.

If you are unable to produce a Letter of Guarantee from the employer/private insurer at the point of admission, the hospitalisation bill will be settled by your MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan, Medisave savings and/or cash. Your employer/insurer can reimburse you for the hospitalisation expenses using the following reimbursement protocol:

  • Your cash outlay
  • Your Medisave savings
  • Your MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan

You should claim from your employers and insurers before claiming from MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan and Medisave savings to conserve the policy/lifetime claim limits of MediShield/Medisave-approved Integrated Shield Plan and Medisave savings for future use.

You should be using your own cash as a last resort.
