Providing for your children's education

Understandably, parents - or those who want to be parents - are often most concerned about the effect that relocation overseas will have on their children and their education.

Options available to you:

If you are a CPF member...

The Education Scheme helps you pay for your children's or your own tertiary education at approved institutions in Singapore. However, overseas tertiary education is not included in the scheme.

If you are a student...

If you had taken an education loan under the Education Scheme, you will need to repay the loan one year after you graduate or one year after you leave school, whichever is earlier. You will need to repay the amount withdrawn, plus the interest that would have been earned if the amount had not been withdrawn.

If you have a SingPass and a UOB/POSB/DBS account with internet banking facilities, you can apply to make repayments.

Alternatively, you can apply for monthly repayments via Interbank GIRO by completing a GIRO application form. Click here to obtain a printable GIRO application form. You may wish to refer to your repayment package for more information.

You should make an effort to repay the loan as early as possible, as interest is accrued at the prevailing CPF Ordinary Account interest rate, until the loan is paid up fully.
