The Number Of Children You Choose To Have

How many children you wish to have depends on the time and energy you can give to your children. If you are a working parent, you need to consider how you are going to balance your career and family.

Generally, it is true to say that the more children you have, the more you need to spread your resources. You should consider your comfort level, your financial resources, your ability to give each child your time and attention.

To support parents’ decision to have more children, the Baby Bonus Scheme helps to lighten the financial costs of raising children.

The Baby Bonus cash gift and matching Government contribution in the Children Development Account (CDA) have been enhanced for Singapore citizen babies born on or after 17 August 2008 to lawfully married parents.

An eligible first and second child will receive up to $4,000 in cash gift and enjoy matching Government contributions in the CDA up to a cap of $6,000. The benefits for a third and fourth child remain unchanged with cash gift of up to $6,000 each and matching Government contribution of up to $12,000 each. Children of the fifth and higher order will be eligible for Government matching contributions in the CDA up to a cap of $18,000 each.

Couples who have difficulties conceiving can use their Medisave to help reduce the out-of-pocket cost for treatment of Assisted Conception Procedures (ACP). For more information on this, click here.

From 17 Aug 2008, the Government will help to make Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) Treatment more affordable by co-funding the treatment costs in public hospitals. For more information on this, click here.
