...Providing For Your Precious Ones

Who Can Look After Your Children

It is important to consider the child care option for your child. Your choice can be one that is:
a) Home-based
b) Centre-based

a) Home-based
These options often provide the specific one-to-one care some small children need. Here are some home based options for you to consider:

Parental Care
If you or your spouse decide to stay at home to take care of your child, this could mean a reduction in your household income, thereby affecting your CPF contributions to be affected as well. If you are using your CPF contributions to pay for your housing loan, you may wish to ensure that you have alternative source of funds to pay your housing installments.

Care by Baby Sitter or Relative
You will have to consider how much to pay your baby sitter or relative. As a guide, you may wish to refer to respective childcare centres’ charges, which range from $300 - $1000 a month.

Care by Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW)
With effect from 1 August 2004, the Government will reduce the monthly Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Levy from $345 to $200 for families with children aged less than 12 years old, or with elderly persons aged 65 years old and above. The FDW Levy concession will make the employment of FDWs more affordable for working persons who need help in providing full-time domestic care for young children or elderly persons.

b) Centre-based
There are several options for you to consider:
o Infant Care
o Child Care
o Student Care

Whichever your options are, you need to consider the following:
  • Is the arrangement convenient?
  • Is the arrangement likely to be permanent?
  • Is the arrangement within my budget?
  • Will my spouse and I be happy with the arrangement?
  • Will my child be happy with the arrangement?
  • Will my child receive good care?
  • Can I trust the centre?
