The Family Court of Singapore will decide whom to grant the 'custody' of the child. The parent who is granted custody of the child has the right to: |
| (a) |
make major decisions concerning the welfare and upbringing of the child, |
| (b) |
have the child live with him/her, and |
| (c) |
make day-to-day decisions concerning the child. | |
| |
|
The most important factor in deciding custody and care and control issues is the welfare of the child. 'Welfare' encompasses all aspects of the well-being (includes emotional and physical wellbeing) and upbringing (includes the education, religious and moral upbringing) of the child. The factors considered by the Court includes: |
| - |
Conduct of you and your ex-spouse |
| - |
Status quo, i.e. the Court will try as much as possible to preserve the status quo for the child |
| - |
Age of the child |
| - |
Sibling bond |
| - |
Wishes of the parents |
| - |
Wishes of the child | |
