Medisave Minimum Sum

Can I withdraw from my Medisave?

As you are likely to use Medisave for your healthcare needs in your retirement, you would need to retain savings in your Medisave Account.

Medisave Minimum Sum

The Medisave Minimum Sum is the amount you need to retain in your Medisave Account, before any excess Medisave savings can be withdrawn, whenever you make a withdrawal of your CPF monies at age 55 and above. The Medisave Minimum Sum ensures you set aside enough savings to meet your future healthcare expenses, especially during old age. The Medisave Minimum Sum is $38,500 from 1 July 2012.

Medisave Required Amount

The Medisave Required Amount (MRA) refers to the amount you need to set aside in your Medisave Account after meeting the CPF Minimum Sum requirement. If you have met the CPF Minimum Sum and have a MRA shortfall at the point of withdrawal, you need to make a top-up to your Medisave Account with part of the balance from your Special Account and/or Ordinary Account to meet the prevailing MRA.

The MRA will be set at $38,500 from 1 January 2013.

How much Medisave can I withdraw?

The table below sums up how the prevailing Medisave Minimum Sum (MMS) and Medisave Required Amount (MRA) will determine the amount you can withdraw from your Medisave Account.

Medisave Account (MA) Balance Amount which can be withdrawn from MA
$38,500 or less
  • No withdrawal from MA is allowed.
  • If you have set aside the CPF Minimum Sum and wish to withdraw the remaining CPF savings in your OA and SA, you will have to make a top-up to your MA with part of the balances from your OA and/or SA to meet the prevailing MRA of $38,500.  This also applies to subsequent withdrawals after 55.
More than $38,500
  • You can withdraw the amount in excess of $38,500 from your MA.
  • However, if you have a CPF Minimum Sum shortfall, the excess monies will be used to make a top-up to your RA.
