        1. What is the Private Medical Insurance Scheme (PMIS)?

PMIS is a scheme which allows CPF members to use their Medisave savings to buy Medisave–approved private integrated plans for themselves and their dependants. Dependants refer to a member's parents, spouse, children and grandparents.

For Medisave-approved private integrated plans that commence or renew from 1 January 2006 onwards, the use of Medisave is subject to a limit of $800 per insured person per policy year. Each insured person can only have one Medisave-approved private integrated plan paid with Medisave.

        2. What is a Medisave-approved private integrated plan?

A Medisave–approved private integrated plan is a catastrophic medical insurance plan which offers additional benefits on top of that provided by MediShield. Members who buy an integrated plan will also be covered under MediShield subject to eligibility conditions such as age and citizenship status. Click here for more information on MediShield.

Even though the Medisave–approved private integrated plans is jointly insured by the private insurer and the Board, policyholders only need to approach the private insurer, which will provide the single point of contact, on matters relating to the integrated plan and to file claims.

        3. Who should buy a Medisave–approved private integrated plan and how can I buy one?

If you want to have additional insurance protection on top of what MediShield provides, such as coverage for stays in Class A/B1 and private wards, you may wish to consider buying a private integrated plan. You can buy one of these plans from the following participating private insurers.

        4. I am currently covered under MediShield. What will happen to my MediShield cover when I buy a Medisave-approved private integrated plan? Can I subsequently downgrade to MediShield again?

If you are currently insured under MediShield and buy a private integrated plan, your MediShield cover will continue. This means that your MediShield cover will not be subject to any additional exclusion which may be imposed by the private insurer on your enhancement plan. You may downgrade to MediShield again at anytime. Your MediShield cover will not be subject to further underwriting.
        5. I am currently not covered under MediShield. If I buy a Medisave-approved private integrated plan now, can I subsequently downgrade to MediShield?

When you buy a Medisave-approved private integrated plan, you will also be covered under MediShield (subject to eligibility conditions such as age and citizenship status). Any exclusion which is imposed on your private integrated plan by the private insurer will also apply on your MediShield cover. You may subsequently downgrade to MediShield at anytime. Your MediShield cover will not be subject to further underwriting but the exclusion, if any, imposed on your private integrated plan will continue to apply.
        6. Who are the participating insurers in the scheme? What are the differences among the Medisave-approved private integrated plans?

The participating insurers in the scheme are:

        1) NTUC Income

        2) American International Assurance

        3) Great Eastern Life

        4) Aviva

        5) Prudential Assurance

Please contact the respective insurers directly for more details on the Medisave-approved private integrated plan which they offer or click here for more details.

        7. Can I use Medisave to buy more than one Medisave-approved private integrated plan?

No. You can use Medisave to buy only one Medisave-approved private integrated plan at any point in time. This is because the plans are similar, and it is therefore not advisable to take up more than one plan.
